Assistant Minister to Cornerstone

Cornestone LogoI am thrilled to announce that Rev. Tony Giles will be joining the Cornerstone Pres. staff as Assistant Pastor starting July 1st.

Tony is a Nashville native. He attended Reformed Theological Seminary (Jackson, MS) for ministerial training and following graduation accepted a call to be an Associate Minister at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville, VA. Tony served at Trinity Presbyterian for 24 years until 2008 when he returned to Nashville to be the Assistant Pastor at Grace Presbyterian Church in Brentwood, TN. Following his work at Grace Presbyterian, Tony worked as the Director of the Church Planting Network of the Nashville Presbytery, and then most recently served our grandmother church, Christ Community Church, as their Interim Senior Minister.

Most notably is the fact that Tony is married to Mary Lynn. They recently celebrated 33 years of marriage together. They have been blessed with two grown daughters, Rebecca and Mary Grace, who love and serve the Lord.

Tony has served as an ordained teaching elder (pastor) in the Presbyterian Church of America for thirty years. He comes to us with a wealth of pastoral experience and will provide breadth and depth to our teaching, discipleship, worship, and spiritual care at Cornerstone.

I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Tony over the last several years on the Church Planting Committee of the Nashville Presbytery. At every turn, I have been impressed with Tony’s love for the gospel and the church, his sanctified wisdom, and humble exercise of leadership.

Needless to say, I am excited about the maturity, experience, and gifts that Tony brings to us, and I look forward to the partnership we will share together in the work of ministry at Cornerstone. You will have an opportunity to get to know Tony and Mary Lynn in the near future and welcome them to Cornerstone. Until then, be praying for Tony and Mary Lynn as they make preparations to join us in July.

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Nate Shurden
