By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples—John 15:8
School is back in session for many of us, which means the “beginning” of the church year is right around the corner too. Next week, Sunday, August 18, marks the start of the fall Sunday School quarter. To give us the scoop, Mr. Greg Wilbur will report on the discipleship opportunities available to you and your family this fall in both the pastoral notes and worship services next week.
For today, I simply want to give you a “sneak peak” at the adult Sunday School class layout for the fall and encourage you to begin thinking about where you are going to plug in to the body of Christ.
First, the class that Larry Thompson helps organize will continue their study of Ephesians, which Mr. Terry Cheney has been leading. This class is a fellowship styled, discussion-based class where honest questions and open dialogue is welcomed. If you are new to Cornerstone, this class is a great way to meet some folks and be cared for spiritually. Consider visiting this class and begin building great relationships around the Word of Truth.
Second, Mr. Kent Coughlin is going to be leading a study of the great Puritan classic, A Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan. If you have never read this book, let me (strongly!) encourage you not to miss this opportunity. With the book as a window into the Christian life, you will keep pace with the lead character, “Christian,” as he explores what it means to be a follower of Christ in a world fraught with many trails and temptations. Mr. Coughlin is recommending a particular edition of the book, The Pilgrim’s Progress: From This World To That Which Is To Come, edited by C.J. Lovak. We will be receiving a few copies for The Bookshelf this next week. It is also available through Amazon on Kindle at a very reasonable price.
Third, there is a great desire among the leadership for your help in designing and developing a stronger ministry of mercy at Cornerstone. This is why several of your church officers and fellow members have banded together for a six to eight week class just to hear from God’s Word, share, brainstorm, pray, and plan with you on how we might better serve the community of Franklin. This class will be filled with discussion, idea sharing, and dreaming about how God might be pleased to use us in our community. We would love to see a plan of action come together from this class that will guide our service in mercy in 2013-2014. But, we’re trusting God for that. For now, just come and listen and share with us, and we’ll watch for God’s work through you.
Many blessings to you all as you press on in your walk with Christ! I look forward to our time together as a faith family this fall.
