The Music of Christmas at Cornerstone

“Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings. Sing to him a new song play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.”—Psalm 33:1-3

After the special privilege of participating in four glorious worship services this past weekend, I was awakened yet again to the current of God’s favor running through our fellowship, especially in the area of music.

To be accurate, this reawakening actually started the first Sunday of Advent with the performance from the Cornerstone Children’s Choir. Some of you remarked how meaningful it was to hear God’s truth being sung beautifully by the youngest hearts in our midst. I could not agree more! I’d like to thank Katy Snow, Susannah Sammons, Sue Steffens, Sophia Wilbur, and Jessica Michaud for their tireless commitment to disciple the children of Cornerstone in the worship of God.

Chief among the musical blessings in our church, of course, is our very own Greg Wilbur. Week after week, God pours His grace into Greg, and week after week, Greg pours that grace out as an offering to God for our blessing in worship. In addition to his ongoing service in worship, Greg recorded a second album this year, “Christ Is Our Cornerstone,” as a worship resource to other churches and to you. If you have not picked up your copy, wait no longer! Come by the church office and secure your copy, and while you’re at it, pick up extra copies as Christmas gifts for friends and family.

4286482296-1Even with all of Greg’s gifts, he cannot do what he does without the many musicians and singers that participate alongside Him. As you know, some of these singers and musicians join up just for our seasonal choirs, and we are thankful for their vital contribution. But many of our folks regularly (some almost weekly!) participate in Lord’s Day worship. Let me encourage you: please take time to express gratitude to these brothers and sisters who are faithfully using their musical gifts to serve you in worship.

On that note, we are on the hunt for more singers and musicians to assist in leading in worship. Do not hesitate to contact Greg if your gift in music is not presently being released in service at Cornerstone. We would like nothing more than to enroll you into the vitally important work of leading in worship!
